Camilla shares another reading list of her favourite books

by Victoria Howard

The Duchess of Cornwall has released a second reading list for fellow bookworms.

Camilla has shared five books to provide inspiration to those looking for their next read over the summer period.

The Royal similarly offered her recommendations for lockdown reading back in April, when she and Prince Charles were at Birkhall.

A keen reader herself, The Duchess of Cornwall is passionate about reading for all ages, promotes it through some of her patronages. These include the National Literacy Trust,  the Royal Society of Literature, BookTrust, and Coram Beanstalk.

Camilla said of the list: “I am delighted to share a few more of my favourite books. At present, it might be ambitious to describe them as ‘beach reads’, but I very much hope they provide a welcome bit of escapism.”

Here is the list, with the Duchess’ comments and descriptions – from crime thrillers to classics, the list should suit most readers!

1. The Woman In White – Wilkie Collins
A menacing and mysterious tale spun by this great Victorian writer with a penchant for drama.

2. Girl – Edna O’Brien
This brilliant Irish novelist lays bare the trauma of Nigeria’s abducted schoolgirls in this harrowing novel.

3. Roy Grace series – Peter James
If you have never read Peter James’ crime thriller series about the Sussex detective, Roy Grace, I would highly recommend you give it a try!

4. The Queen’s Necklace – Alexandre Dumas
A thrilling mystery about a missing diamond necklace. An epic tale of love and hatred, betrayal and courage, set at the court of Louis XVI.

5. The Island – Victoria Hislop
An evocatively told story of four generations rent by war, illicit love, violence and leprosy, from the thirties, through the war, to the present day.

Which will you be picking up next?
