Photo marks The Queen & Prince Philip’s 70th wedding anniversary

A photo has been released by Buckingham Palace this evening, ahead of The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh’s wedding anniversary on Monday.

The portraits were taken by British photographer Matt Holyoak, who works for Camera Press, in early November, and has its background in the White Drawing Room at Windsor Castle.

Her Majesty wears a white boucle dress by Angela Kelly, with her ruby brooch, created by jeweller, Andrew Grima; the piece was a gift from Prince Philip in 1966, shortly before the couple’s 10th wedding anniversary.

The Duke of Edinburgh looks dapper in grey-blue trousers, a check jacket and red tie.

“In this first release, The Queen and His Royal Highness are framed by Thomas Gainsborough’s 1781 portraits of George III and Queen Charlotte, who were married for 57 years,” explains the palace. It is this couple that Her Majesty and the Duke overtook in 2004, to become the longest-married British Monarch and spouse.

The image is a part of a set to be released for the couple’s platinum wedding anniversary; we expect another on 20th November, the actual day of the anniversary.

The Queen and Prince Philip will celebrate the milestone privately at Windsor Castle with a dinner, attended by close friends, and family.

On the day of anniversary, a married couple has much to thank and feel lucky for; the couple deeply feels that all that matters is the bond of togetherness that they still enjoy – despite so many trials and tribulations.
