Sophie ‘aims’ for the press at hockey session with England men’s team

Sophie, Countess of Wessex attempted to show off her hockey skills at an engagement with the England men’s team today – and almost hit the photographers who joined her.

The Countess was visiting Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre near Marlow in Buckinghamshire as patron of England Hockey, a role she has held for 10 years.

Some of the national squad put the Countess through her paces during a training session this morning, and Sophie dribbled and controlled the ball in front of the cameras.

In a more casual ensemble of trainers, jeans and a smart jacket, the Countess looked as if she had lost her concentration when one shot went wayward, and hit a photographer on the foot.

Other shots narrowly missed a couple of other members of the gathered media. Sophie put her hand over her mouth in horror at the accident, but it was laughed off by the journalists and photographers who were there to report on the Countess’ visit.

The Royal travelled to the training facility to meet the new chairman of England Hockey, Royston Hoggarth, who replaced Philip Kimberley, and had a photo taken with the entire team in their red uniforms.
