A new royal first has been made by The Duke and Duchess of Sussex – by sending an e-Christmas card!
Prince Harry and Meghan are spending this Christmas in Canada, with seven-month-old Archie, Buckingham Palace revealed last week. Many had expected them to spend it in California with Dorian, the Duchess’ mother.
The card has been sent to the couple’s patronages and affiliates on Monday (with real hard copies heading to close friends and family) and was shared on social media.
The black and white photo features Archie inquisitively crawling towards the camera, while parents Harry and Meghan sit in front of a Christmas tree, giggling at their son.
The photo was snapped by one of the Duchess’ old friends, actress Janina Gavankar. It was shared with the public via the The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust Twitter account. The Duke of Sussex is president of the organisation, which supports young people in impoverished areas across the Commonwealth, while Meghan is vice-president.
The charity tweeted: “Just sharing the sweetest Christmas Card from our president and vice-President, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Very Merry Christmas, everyone!”
In a November statement, an official said of the couple’s break: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are looking forward to extended family time towards the end of this month. Having spent the last two Christmases at Sandringham, their royal highnesses will spend the holiday this year, as a new family, with the duchess’s mother Doria.”
They also added that they had the support of The Queen, and were not making waves as other Royals – including the Cambridges – have spent Christmases away from Sandringham previously.
