The Duke of Kent has cancelled his upcoming engagements after being struck down with a chest infection.
Prince Edward, 81, had a number of events scheduled, but will no longer be attending them. The ‘future engagements’ section of the Royal Family’s website is now blank for the coming month for the Duke.
Buckingham Palace said the Duke hoped to be back at work soon. “On doctor’s advice, the Duke of Kent has cancelled his engagements this week,” the palace said.
Prince Edward suffered a mild stroke in 2013, but recovered well.
He is The Queen’s cousin, and has supported her in Royal duties since she took the throne in 1952. Last year, The Duke of Kent undertook 149 engagements in the UK and 10 abroad.
The announcement comes just days after his sister, Princess Alexandra broke her wrist, causing her to withdraw from engagements for a while.
