A new photograph of The Queen and her three heirs has been released by Buckingham Palace.
The image shows Elizabeth II with her successors, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and Prince George of Cambridge. It appears that the shot was taken just after the foursome made Christmas puddings for a Royal British Legion’s ‘Together at Christmas’ project, an event that was filmed on the day of the Royal Family’s Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace.
The palace says the photo is to ‘mark the start of a new decade’ in 2020.
Prince Charles is in the same pinstripe blue suit, Prince George his tartan trousers, while The Queen wears her sapphire brooch with pearl drop, once belonging to Marie Feodorovna and acquired Queen Mary.
The future King – the next one! – rests his hand on George’s shoulder. The six-year-old is almost at his grandad’s shoulder! The pair stand on a step, while The Queen takes centre stage, with Prince William standing behind.
The snap was taken by Ranald Mackechnie in the Throne Room; this is where The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had their wedding photos, and is one of the first rooms of the tour of the palace during the summer months.
