The Braemar Gathering is a local version of Highland games that has seen The Queen as a spectator each year. Events include the caber toss, tug of war, the hammer throw,  and even. Attendees are also treated to pipe bands and Highland dancers.

It took place at The Princess Royal and Duke of Fife Memorial Park in Braemar, beginning at 9.30 a.m, lasting well until the late afternoon.

The Queen is patron of the games, which have taken place in its current form since 1832, but has a long history stretching back 900 years, to the time of King Malcolm Canmore; Queen Victoria first attended in 1848, and began a tradition of royal attendance, with Balmoral being located just nine miles away.

Her Majesty wore her Braemar feather brooch for the occasion, which was given to her back in 2002 for her Golden Jubilee.

It is thought that The Queen was hosting Boris Johnson at Balmoral on Friday night but that he has since returned to London.

Daem Judi Dench was spotted in the crowds too.
