Prince George & Princess Charlotte join royal walk to church for Christmas with Queen

Even though most of us are wading through wrapping paper, vegetable peelings, and excess furniture today, the Royal Family headed to church at Sandringham for the traditional service.

This year saw new faces join the Windsor clan for the walk: Prince George and Princess Charlotte, holding hands with their parents, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. They were walking with The Prince of Wales.

You might remember that the then-Meghan Markle joined the Royals at Sandringham in December 2017, ahead of her and Harry’s nuptials in May 2018.

As usual, The Queen was driven down from the main house, this year joined by The Duchess of Cornwall. Her Majesty was wearing a coral-red colour, while Camilla was in purple.

Princess Eugenie was joined by her husband Jack for the second year in a row, and Princess Beatrice’s fiance, Edoardo Mappo Pelozzi was also an addition to the walking party. The couple got engaged in October.

The Earl and Countess of Wessex walked with their two children, Lady Louise and James, having been at Sandringham for nearly a week now. The family attended church with The Queen on Sunday.

Absent from the public walk were The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who have been taking some family time away from duties since November. It follows a difficult year for the couple and their relationship with the press. Prince Harry and Meghan are currently in Canada with their seven-month-old son Archie.

The Duke of York also opted to skip the service, having attended the informal service at 9am with The Queen instead. He was seen walking to St Mary Magdalene’s with Prince Charles this morning. It has been described as a ‘personal decision’ to stay at the house with The Duke of Edinburgh; Philip was only released from hospital yesterday.

After the service, the Royals headed to see the crowds gathered, and accept the flowers and cards brought by well-wishers. Princess Charlotte was even given an inflatable flamingo!
