Queen and Prince Philip pictured at Windsor ahead of Duke’s 99th birthday

A new photo of The Queen and Duke of Edinburgh has been released, ahead of Prince Philip’s 99th birthday tomorrow.

The photo was taken at the beginning of June in the Quadrangle of the ancient castle.

Her Majesty wears a yellow print floral dress, with her Cullinan V brooch, while Philip looks dapper in a double breasted jacket and his Household Division tie.

The Duke of Edinburgh is the oldest British consort in history, and also the one holding the position for the longest. Before him, Queen Charlotte, George III’s wife, held the role for 57 years.

This weekend will also see a scaled-back version of Trooping the Colour take place in the same location. The Duke of Edinburgh last attended the official celebration of his wife’s birthday in 2017, having retired earlier in the year.

Last week, Prince Charles mentioned that he missed hugs, in an interview with Sky News, commenting that his father’s birthday was coming up.

It is not known if any of the Royal Family will be taking advantage of the eased lockdown rules in order to visit The Queen and Duke, who are both in the high-risk category of over-70s. The Duke of York lives in Windsor Great Park, while the Wessexes are a few miles away at Bagshot.

Unusually we had a statement from the Prince Consort in April, praising the work of scientists and front-line staff for their efforts during the pandemic.
