The Prince and Princess of Wales, along with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, volunteered at Upton Scouts Hut in Slough today, as part of the Big Help Out.

Rounding off the coronation weekend, the Big Help Out is a nationwide day of volunteering organised to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III on Saturday and leave a legacy of community after this historic ceremony.

The Royals arrived at the Scout hut near to Windsor this morning, and were greeted by a group of volunteers who were already hard at work. William and Catherine jumped in, helping to paint, move sand, and plant flowers.

The children also pitched in, with Princess Charlotte painting a fence panel, while Princes George and Louis both joined their father in a mini JCB digger to landscape the garden.

The day has been billed as Prince Louis’ first official engagement, which saw him also helping to shovel sand into a wheelbarrow to help make a new path.

George, 9, was also spotted using a drill for some DIY supported by another Scout volunteer.

During the relaxed event, the Wales family chatted with the volunteers and learned about the work that they were doing.

The Princess of Wales has long been involved with the Scouts, supporting her local group in Anglesey shortly after joining the Royal Family, then becoming joint president of the Scouts in 2019, alongside The Duke of Kent.

Catherine is passionate about the work of the Scouts and believes that it provides young people with valuable skills and experiences that will help them develop and be important for life. She has spoken about how the Scouts helped her to develop her confidence and leadership skills, and she has previously said that she is ‘proud to be a Scout’.

They also took the opportunity to pose for photos with the volunteers and the children, with the Royals helping to paint a mural inside with a handprint, before taking to the archery field for some family competition.

‘They were very good, and seemed to have good fun,’ volunteer Beatriz Andrade said.

At the end of their visit came the smores. Princess Charlotte, Prince George, Prince Louis and their mum all toasted marshmallows to make the snack, wearing scarfs from the 3rd Upton Scout Group.

The Prince and Princess of Wales thanked the volunteers for their hard work. They also spoke about the importance of volunteering and the positive impact that it can have on communities.

‘It’s so important to give back to our communities,’ said The Prince of Wales. ‘Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, learn new skills, and make a difference in the lives of others.’

‘I’m so proud of all the volunteers who are working so hard today,’ said the Princess. ‘You are all making a real difference.’
